Lift weights.
It seems logical that aerobic exercise like jogging or dancing burns calories. You are moving and burning fuel like car does. But lifting weights also burns calories. When you commit to a weight-lifitng program that exercises all the major muscle groups, you will build muscle and muscles needs a lots of calories to grow. So the more muscle you develop, the more calories you will burn. If you are going to lift weights at home or a health club, be sure to get proper instructions and do it correctly to avoid any injuries.

Stand instead of sit.
Standing up uses more calories than sitting. Don't laugh - every little bit helps. Pacing burns up even more calories. If you must sit, fidget. Tapping your foot or bouncing your knee burns calories wherever you are.

Play with your kids.
Kinds are in constant motion. That's why their metabolisms are so high and they seem to be able to eat anything. Shoot hoops with your daughter. Kick the soccer ball with your son. They will love it - and you will love what it does for your body.

Get a dog.
Walking the dog a couple of times a day will force you to get exercise. Playing with your dog and teaching him how to fetch will also help you drop pounds. Teach him to catch a frisbee.

Join a health club.
It is hard to go religiously, but if you do, the pounds will melt away. To make sure that you go, pick one close to your house or on the way home from work, so that you don't have to go out of your way to get there. Find the ones that opens early and stays open late so that you can go there whenever you want.

Don't exercise to close to bedtime.
Finish your workout two hours before you go to sleep. If you do it any later, the activity may keep you wide awake for hours.

Gardening and hiking.
Pick up hobbies that have exercise built into them. If you work in an office all week and are thinking about a part-time job, get one with a little manual labor and physical activity built in.

Take it easy.
If you are very overweight, be gentle with yourself. Swimming, biking and skating are low-impact exercises that can be done at an easy pace. Nobody wants to do an exercise that hurts. Low-impact sports allow you to be active without aggravating bad backs or achy joins.

Do it longer instead of harder.
Studies have shown that the body burns more fat if you exercise at a gentle pace for a longer time than if you go full tilt for a shorter time.

Go dancing.
Dancing is a great calorie burning exercise and loads of fun. Try tap, ballroom, clogging, square or country line dancing. Get out there and cut a rug.
